Library Director

Library Director for the Pickaway County District Public Library (OH)

The Board of Trustees seeks a leader to build on the solid successes of their retiring Director. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills to inspire team concepts within the staff and to positively connect with the public; experience in developing the annual budget in cooperation with staff and Board; experience in upholding policies and priorities; and the ability to create and implement the shared vision of Board, staff and community.

Pickaway County District Public Library (PCDPL) has a customer focused staff, a recently renovated main facility, an annual $1.7 million operating budget and a growing Foundation. Pickaway County District Public Library serves 55,698 residents with 28.6 FTE and circulated 378,000 items in 2015 to 31,600 card holders.PCDPL is a member of the Central (OH) Library Consortium, offering the resources of 14 central Ohio libraries and superb digital resources.

Circleville, is the county seat and offers smaller community comforts, an opportunity for rural living and is a short drive to the larger city amenities of Columbus, Ohio.

Responsibilities and requirements: This position oversees a county library system with a main library, one branch and bookmobile, under the direction of the Pickaway County District Public Library Board of Trustees, a seven member appointed Board.

The Library Director recommends policy and provides day-to day oversight of work towards achieving the goals within the Board approved long range plan. The Director plans and oversees an active continuing community relations program, especially the development of strong relationships with community leaders and organizations within the county; represents the library within the community; attends library conferences and regional and statewide professional meetings; administers special projects on behalf of Board; hires, trains, evaluates and develops the administrative staff of the library; administers personnel policies; and is responsible for the Library’s strategic planning process for the expansion and enhancement of services to all residents of the county.

Qualifications

MLIS from an ALA accredited program

A broad knowledge of the current principles and practices of managing a public library

Minimum of 5 years public library experience in increasingly responsible positions, with 3 years at the management level

Essential Abilities

Excellent administrative, financial planning, communication and personnel management skills

Ability to speak to diverse communities about their interests and service needs

Ability to handle and resolve conflicts involving patrons, staff, and community leaders

Ability to participate in meetings and conferences outside of normal working hours

Initiative and vision in developing library services

Ability to build relationships with the Library Board, staff and community leaders

Experience with governing Boards, strategic planning, levy campaigns and library technology

Compensation: The starting salary is $70,000, negotiable depending upon qualifications, with a competitive benefits package.
